OTTA – Forward Or Die

This piece of cinematography is a music video I made for my friends and their 2-piece band to use as promotional material and to send off to labels.

We were lucky enough to be offered a fantastic space at an Arts Centre in a nearby town which featured curtains, a grand piano, beautiful hardwood floors & 3 full length mirrors on wheels, which I had a LOT of fun filming with.

Check it out ! ヾ(⌐■_■)ノ♪

I filmed this with three different cameras.

I used my two Olympus DSLR cameras; OM-D E-M5 II & OM-D E-M10 II for the high-quality still shots.

For the handheld shots I used an old camcorder I procured from my old high school when it did an overhaul of its Audio-Visual hardware. Its a 2010 Canon HD Legria HF M300 Camcorder, which was top of the line in 2010!
I know everyone’s obsessed with the highest fidelity cameras and their picture quality right now but I love the old school 90’s home video feel this gives. Very nostalgic of my parents own home videos of me and my brothers.

I went to get that “Radiohead – Live in the basement” feeling with low light and the bold contrast between the curtains and bright floors. I tried to use the mirrors for interesting angles and give the impression of many people where playing in the area, when really it’s just their reflections.

Radiohead – In Rainbows, from the Basement (LEFT), Otta – Live at COPACC (RIGHT) …..some similarities, right?

For editing I used a trial version of Wondershare Filmora 9. This odd choice of software was because at the time, I’d never put together a piece like this, I did a quick google of “free video editing software” and was working on my old old old HP laptop, so needed something light.
I wouldn’t really recommend it, as I had trouble getting the sound output to come out correctly. this lead to a quiet video. I no longer have the software so cant tweak it further… so turn it up!

anyway, it got the job done.

All in all I had a fantastic time making this and hope to do more in the near future for them.
